Mahindra Thar Roxx Deliveries Begin with Record Demand – Waiting Period Extends to 2026

Mahindra’s Thar Roxx SUV, launched in India in August 2024, has seen an overwhelming response, accumulating over 1.76 lakh bookings within just an hour of opening. This demand has resulted in a significant waiting period, with some customers expected to receive their vehicles as late as mid-2026. The five-door Thar Roxx, designed for off-road performance, offers variants with both petrol and diesel engines, starting at ₹12.99 lakh (ex-showroom) and ranging up to ₹22.49 lakh for premium models with 4WD and automatic transmission.

Mahindra has started customer deliveries for the Thar Roxx on time for the Dussehra festival in October 2024. However, due to high demand and supply constraints, buyers of certain higher-end variants may face extended waiting times, particularly those opting for specific interior and drivetrain options. To address the backlog, Mahindra plans to boost production to 7,500 units per month by November 2024, which may help reduce waiting periods gradually over the coming months.

The Mahindra Thar Roxx has quickly become one of the most popular SUV models in India, primarily due to its enhanced design and robust off-road capabilities. The Thar Roxx comes as a five-door model—setting it apart from its three-door predecessors—with increased cabin space and added comfort features, making it a more practical choice for families and urban drivers who want a rugged vehicle. Engine options include the 2.0L mStallion petrol, delivering 177 PS and 380 Nm, and the 2.2L mHawk diesel, producing 175 PS and 370 Nm, with both manual and automatic transmissions available.

As Mahindra ramps up production to 7,500 units per month, they aim to meet the overwhelming demand, which has stretched waiting periods significantly. Those who ordered higher-spec models with specific interior configurations, like the mocha brown 4WD, face the longest waits, extending up to mid-2026. This model’s success follows Mahindra’s previous popular launches, such as the Scorpio N and XUV700, both of which also experienced high demand and supply bottlenecks initially. This trend underscores a growing interest in versatile, premium SUVs within India’s expanding automotive market

To ensure timely deliveries, Mahindra is communicating tentative delivery timelines directly to customers, advising them to coordinate with their dealers upon receiving a delivery estimate. This coordination is crucial because any lapse in communication could result in delays, as dealerships may allocate units to other customers if delivery details aren’t confirmed. This strategy helps Mahindra manage the delivery queue effectively and ensures that vehicles reach customers as scheduled, despite the heavy order load.
